Refugee Food & Arts Festival
The Refugee Food & Art Festival is a weekend long event, hosted by Displaced Kitchens alongside the 2017 United Nations General Assembly. The event will be an opportunity for attendees to learn what it means to be a refugee and better understand the refugee crisis through food, artwork and stories. For refugees coming to America, resettlement can be challenging. In a new place where the language, customs and way of living are unfamiliar, simple, everyday tasks, such as finding a job, a home or a school for their children can seem insurmountable. The daily difficulties are compounded by misunderstandings in their host communities, where well meaning neighbors don't quite understand how isolated and unsupported the refugees are. Displaced Kitchens helps newly-settled refugees find their footing by connecting them with their local communities and giving them an opportunity to earn a living. Proceeds from the event will support the refugee hosts, as well as local resettlement organizations. Event will be held on Friday, September 22 -Sunday, September 24.
