Multifaith Volunteer Day to Support Syrian Refugees
The Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees and partner American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) are collaborating with Heart to Heart International to support the urgent need for humanitarian supplies to aid Syrian refugees. More than 600 volunteers from diverse faith organizations, including children, adults, and families, will gather and work side by side to assemble more than 8,000 emergency hygiene kits to be distributed to Syrian refugees. Join the Catholic Charities team from 12:00 - 2:00pm in making kits that contain the supplies necessary to maintain basic hygiene, thus helping prevent the spread of disease. The participants in this event will also assemble kits designed to meet the specific needs of women, an especially vulnerable population during times of crises. Additional Information: There will be two types of kits that will be assembled. KIT A: Hygiene kits contain supplies necessary to maintain basic personal hygiene. KIT B: Women's kits contain items to support women's hygiene, safety (flashlight, etc.), and birth control. You may select which kit you would like to work once you sign up. The kits will be shipped directly from NYC to Istanbul (via a partnership with FedEx) and then transported to refugees for distribution by a local NGO. We are inviting top New York political leaders to join the event. There will media, music, and other special guests.
