NY Foundling: Crisis Nursery
Do you like kids (ages 0-10)? We are looking for volunteers to help us in our Crisis Nursery! This opportunity is in the Chelsea / Union Square neighborhood.
The Crisis Nursery is a temporary home for children whose parents are temporarily unable to care for them -- whether for a single mother who is unexpectedly hospitalized, or an immigrant family who has too much on their plate, the Crisis Nursery offers a safe and comfortable temporary home for children.
We are looking for volunteers to help with activities throughout the day -- volunteers may be asked to read a story, help out during playtime, meal prep, assist with laundry, etc. Volunteers will not be asked to assist with disciplining or bathing.
Volunteers are asked to commit to 4 hour shifts -- weekends and evenings are particularly in need since the Crisis Nursery is open 24/7.
Volunteers will be asked to complete a background and medical check.
The NY Foundling was founded in 1869 as a home for abandoned children, The Foundling today offers an expansive array of services for underserved children, families, and adults with developmental disabilities. Whether it’s an abused child in need of a foster home, a young mother who lacks the skills to care for her child, or a young person lost in the juvenile justice system, The Foundling provides the resources necessary to rebuild lives and rebuild families.
Minimum Age:18+
