Guild for the Blind: Tutor
Catholic Charities Guild for the Blind is seeking a tutor to work with a blind adult student in our high school equivalency preparation program. He is very friendly and engaging—a joy to work with!
This student is preparing for the TASC (“GED”) exam but has never been formally educated and only in recent years has received literacy and math training where much of the instruction was one-on-one. He is now taking several different subject classes in a group setting and is struggling to do his work independently, i.e., keep track of his homework assignments, organize his information, budget his time, do the work, and so forth. He needs to develop good study habits, which is what the tutor will help him with.
The tutor does not need to teach the different subject areas of the TASC but rather help him with study skills. That said if the tutor does have experience teaching academic subjects, particularly high school equivalency preparation, or working with visually impaired individuals, these kinds of experiences can be helpful but not necessary. The tutor does need to have a lot of patience and know what it takes to be a good student.
Please note that tutoring can be on site or by phone if feasible. If on-site, maybe Tuesdays from 11:30 am -12:30 pm, flexible if by phone.
Minimum Age:18+
