AmeriCorps VISTA - Refugee Resettlement Volunteer Coordinator

The Refugee Resettlement Department (RR) of Catholic Charities Community Services provides assistance to refugees and asylees from diverse backgrounds, offering a variety of case management, employment, and educational services that help clients settle into their new community. RR provides assistance to 600+ immigrants every year through a focus on case management, employment, and educational services. To further help us with this goal the AmeriCorps VISTA member will be responsible for engaging volunteers, interns and parish/community/corporate volunteers to work with staff and support the programs.

Respsonsibilites:
  • Implement effective volunteer management strategies to positively impact volunteer and intern program.
  • Conduct outreach with members of the community, community partners, faith-based organizations, schools, agencies, civic groups, etc. in coordination with CCCS’ Volunteer Services Department, to promote volunteer opportunities and advocate for issues concerning refugees and asylees.
  • Recruit, screen, and track volunteer hours in conjunction with CCCS Volunteer Services Department.
  • Train and supervise office interns and volunteers throughout the year.
  • Maintain an active list of local community partners for effective outreach and communication of office needs and successes.
  • Coordinate services between volunteers and clients based on availability and location to ensure client and program needs are met.
  • Create tools to improve volunteer coordination such as PowerPoint presentations, webinars, manuals, tracking sheets, and protocols.
  • Collaboratively plan community-based events such as World Refugee Day, mock-interview days, and awareness-raising events.
Skill Requirements:
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Flexible, patient, compassionate, and interested in working with refugee populations.  Additional language skills (particularly Arabic, French and Spanish) are beneficial but not required.
  • High School degree or GED equivalence mandatory, college or pursuing degree preferred.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or Permanent Resident.
  • Must be able to undergo and clear a background check.
