Opportunity Details

Sheetrock and debris removal

Transportation will be provided.

Volunteers are requested to help with the physical clean up of fours home badly destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Tasks include: removal of sheetrock & insulation, cleaning behind it and removal of flooring.  We will supply work gloves, but if you have a preference to bring your own, please do so.

Additional Information: Volunteers will meet at the Cardinal Spellman Center located at 137 E 2nd St, New York, NY 10009 at 9:30am with an anticipated arrival in Staten Island by 10:00am. The exact address in Staten Island, for those with their own transportation, will be provided by email. Please dress with the anticipation that you will get very dirty and please bring your own lunch. Heavy duty work boots are recommended.

Qualifications:  We are looking for people with construction experience OR experience in mucking out homes after a natural disaster. Either way, all volunteers are welcome as long as you don't mind getting dirty. Volunteers need to be able to lift at least 40 or 50 pounds and not have any pre-existing health conditions.
