CCCS: Community Outreach Liaison
CCCS is looking for an outgoing volunteer to perform community outreach. Our program site is located on 2155 Blackrock Avenue in Castle Hill, so the neighborhoods we serve include Parkchester, Longwood, Soundview, Hunts Point, etc. (Bronx Community District 9). The volunteer would need to be able to walk long distances and be comfortable with working outside much of the time. The ideal candidate will be someone who knows the Bronx and will be familiar and/or comfortable with what will be encountered in traveling around this area.
The job would entail traveling door to door as well as to public locations and businesses to distribute outreach fliers, posters, door hangers, and other similar publicity-style material issued to us by the NYC Department of Homeless Services in an effort to cover the geographic areas here in the Bronx that we serve. He/She will also assist in posting fliers around the neighborhood to publicize our Christmas toy distribution.
The prospective volunteer would also need to be able to quickly memorize all our services and be comfortable speaking face to face with strangers about Homebase, as they will function as an ambassador to the neighborhood.
Administrative tasks would include but are not limited to, conducting research neighborhood research online. If the volunteer has a good professional phone manner, they could help schedule appointments for the Program Coordinator.
Ideally, this person will become a regular outreach presence in different locations across the neighborhood, whether it would be setting up a table in a park or plaza or visiting local groceries or laundromats to post information.
Additional Information:
The volunteer would be need for about 4 hours, 2 or 3 days per week.
Bilingual ability to work in Spanish is desired but not required. Basic computer skills desired.
