Opportunity Details

High School & Adult Tutors

Last year the NYC Department of Education designated 130 public schools as community schools. The community school model was pioneered by the Children’s Aid Society and at its core it wraps medical, community, and social services around a school to improve the lives of students and families and thereby boost academic performance, attendance and graduation rates. Each school was called to engage a community based organization as its CBO Partner; Catholic Charities Community Services-Alianza Division was chosen by the High School for Media and Communications and the High School for Health Careers and Science as their CBO Partner.

Both schools are on the George Washington Educational Campus in Washington Heights. Our job there is to coordinate resources to address the needs that prevent students from achieving academic success.  The work is carried out by engaging partners to provide academic enrichment, experiential learning, mentorship and tutoring opportunities as well as mental health services, vision screenings and other services. Our work also includes family engagement and providing supportive services.

Our students are in dire need for after school and Saturday tutoring. Volunteers are needed for the following subjects: Math, Global and American History, and English As A Second Language (ESL).

Instructors are also needed for ongoing ESL class for parents on weekends.

Additional Information: Tutors are needed 3pm - 6pm Monday - Friday and 9am - 1pm on Saturdays.

The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
