2022 Asylum Seeker Navigation Center Welcome and Support Volunteer (Red Cross)

Catholic Charities Community Services is currently experiencing an influx of individuals and families seeking asylum here in New York City. We need personable, professional volunteers to help our Case Management team with administrative duties and client-related activities. You will primarily be escorting and greeting asylum seekers, handing out toys/snacks/water, or performing various tasks to aid the case management team.
What you will do:
- Greet asylum seekers warmly
- You may be the first friendly face all week
- Perform administrative duties in a fast-paced environment
- Such as stapling, copying, sorting donations, assembling packets etc
- Escort clients to and from the case management floor
- Sit and communicate with clients in waiting rooms and escort them around the building
- Occasionally distribute snacks and water
- Escort groups to a nearby location serving free lunch as needed
Preferred Skills:
- Spanish, Portuguese, and French skills highly preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Empathetic, friendly demeanor
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
- Flexibility to pivot between tasks
- Comfortability with crowds and engaging with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Ability to stand/walk around for a few hours
- You might be escorting asylum seekers to a nearby Catholic Charities agency to grab a free bagged lunch after appointments
- Experience with immigrants and refugees is a plus!
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday
- 10am-1pm
- 1pm-4pm
